Would You Let Them Scan Your Child?
In Earlville, "children who didn't want to scan would be denied a hot lunch".
Parents' protests prompted Illinois State Senator Miguel Del Valle's biometric bill requiring parental permission, opt-out policies, and the protection of children's data.
"In August 2005 our school denied all children the ability to purchase lunch unless they scanned via biometrics. After my son was scanned without my consent or knowledge regardless of our wishes, I wrote Illinois legislation and on Jan 18,06 SB 2549 was introduced . Now my children do not have to scan to eat at school, however it is my belief that all of the childrens rights were violated not just mine.Contact your local Senators & State Reps and ask them to vote yes for SB2549 prayerfully when passed to be known as Brooke & Gunners Law. We are telling this story to ensure other schools do not make this same mistake & to help protect children's rights." Parent/Guardian
