31-07-2006 The Yorkshire Post and NO2ID report that Tony Blair addressed Rupert Murdoch's News Corps in Pebble Beach, California. Blair's speech about leadership laid out his thinking on world affairs and the forces that leaders like him must fight. Blair said: "NGOs and pressure groups with single causes can be benevolent but can also exercise a kind of malign tyranny over the public debate." What led him to this conclusion? Perhaps its his surprise at fact that not everyone shares his vision of a numbered, fingerprinted and surveilled society. Blair hinted at his thinking when he said: "It is, to me at least, almost incredible that the proposal to introduce an identity register in the UK should be so extraordinarily controversial. But it is." Yes it is, in fact some people believe that Blair's vision is, well, a malign tyranny.

03-07-2006 Junior Librarian firm issue press release "Identikit biometric solution encourages school library lending". But yet again they fail to back up this optimistic claim with any independent research that proves thumbprinting has a lasting beneficial effect on learning. The release includes just one quote from one teacher at one school! Having already earned more than £1 million just from fingerprinting primary school children, and with more than £4000 of school fingerprint money a week coming in on top, surely they can do better than this!

We are campaigning to have the widespread use of biometrics in schools debated in Parliament, and henceforth strictly regulated and closely monitored, with a statutory requirement for explicit parental consent wherever biometrics are used.
