>> 10 Things You Should Know About Schools Fingerprinting Children <<

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves." William Pitt 18th Nov 1783

"If that don't suit ya, that's a drag" Alice Cooper 'School's Out'

They didn't ask us if they could fingerprint our children. The letter just said "we have decided".

Many of the 3500 primary schools that are already fingerprinting primary school children didn't even have the courtesy to inform parents beforehand. The first they knew was when their child came home and asked "Guess what we did at school today?"

For those 'lucky' enough to be informed, the most they could expect is a letter home informing them "we have decided" to fingerprint your children, like the one reproduced below. We haven't heard of a single case where parents were asked for their explicit consent.

What do you think about this?

email:

If parents at this school hadn't protested, this is the only notification we would have had that our children were about to be fingerprinted. The letter is in a much smaller font than most school letters, there are no bold bits to highlight the important parts and very unusually there is no tear off consent slip. Normally children can't even cross the road without a permission slip.

The school is not asking for consent. The letter states "WE HAVE DECIDED". In case you have any queries, come and see us. Hang on, the letter is sent out at home time on the last day before half term. So if you do have any queries, there will be nobody here to answer them for nine days. But there's always next term. If you remember, you will have just five school days before thumbprinting begins. 20 primary schools a week are doing the same thing, in every single case without asking parents.
This must be stopped!

"Education, Education, Education" Tony Blair     "Consent, Consent, Consent" Parents

We are campaigning to have the widespread use of biometrics in schools debated in Parliament, and henceforth strictly regulated and closely monitored, with a statutory requirement for explicit parental consent wherever biometrics are used.
