>> 10 Things You Should Know About Schools Fingerprinting Children <<"No man is justified in doing evil on the ground of expediency." Theodore Roosevelt, (1858 - 1919) "Teacher, there are things that I don't want to learn" George Michael, 'Teacher' A Tale of Two Letters... The one on the left is a typical school letter in a large font, with the important bit in bold, and an opt-in consent slip. Interestingly it's a variation on the standard opt-in slip they send out every year before filming the school play. It says "regulations mean that we must ask your permission to do this". The one on the right is the letter the school sent us, at home time on the last day before half term, informing us "we have decided" to fingerprint your children. Come and see us if you have any questions, but of course we will be away on holiday for the next nine days. After that, if you still remember, you have five school days to see us before we start fingerprinting. (Work on the scheme has been going on in school for nearly a year!) Have you received a similar letter from your child's school? Let us know! email: |
If parents at this school hadn't protested, the letter on the right is the only notification we would have had that our children were about to be fingerprinted without our consent. It says: "WE HAVE DECIDED".

We are campaigning to have the widespread use of biometrics in schools debated in Parliament, and henceforth strictly regulated and closely monitored, with a statutory requirement for explicit parental consent wherever biometrics are used.
